Gerard John Schaefer was an American serial killer and former police officer who committed murders in Florida during the early 1970s. He was convicted of killing two young women but was suspected of murdering many more. Schaefer lured victims by abusing his authority as an officer, often pretending to offer them safety before abducting and killing them. He was known for his sadistic methods and kept disturbing writings that detailed his fantasies and crimes. Sentenced to life in prison, he was ultimately murdered by a fellow inmate in 1995.
